Goal of the Project

For the 2014 All Campus Fall Kickoff event at Heartland Community College, a series of videos needed to be produced speaking about the topics of "Why Processes Matter", "What is AQIP?", the Academic Quality Improvement Program used for the continuing accreditation of the college, and this video "What Happens When There Are No Processes?". These videos were recorded over the summer of 2014 on campus at Heartland Community College and around the town of Normal, Illinois. The videos were to highlight for the campus employees the importance of continuous improvement and using accurate processes.

Solution to the Problem

I served as the videographer and post-production video editor for this series of videos. The questions were asked by Doug Minter, Heartland Community College Vice President of Business Services, and Kelly Hill, Heartland Community College Executive Director for Planning and Collaborative Efforts. After the videos were recorded, I transcribed all of the answers with time stamps making it easier to cut out each persons answer and determine the order for each video. Using Final Cut Pro I cut each video segment and assembled each of the final 5 videos to be shown at the All Campus assembly in August 2014. I created the title screens and motion graphics using Adobe Illustrator and Apple Motion. The title music, a song called Vista, was royalty free music used from Apple GarageBand. These videos were well received by the All Campus assembly attendees and I received positive feedback from many co-workers.

(Words on Screen: What Happens If There Are No Processes?)

(David Vale, Fitness Instructor speaking)
Sometimes in classes we do lateral moves. So we move side to side like left and right. So if some part of the group is going left and some part of the group is going right they would probably collide and hit each other. So it is really important that they are all going right at the same time and left.

(Scott Rowan, Illinois State University Campus Chef speaking)
It messes up the whole party. Everything is step by step process and you need to follow those and if they are not followed or you miss a step or try to cut around a step and it is just going to cause you a bigger headache in the end.

(Isaiah (child attendee of the campus event) speaking)
Some instructions are helpful. But I sort of like to do it my own way. No I just make up my own idea.

(Sam Carmany (attendee of the campus event) speaking)
Like If you would cut somebody off by getting in their lane you would be disqualified.

(Candace Brownlee, Heartland Community College Director of Admissions and Student Recruitment, speaking)
Yeah. I don't want to think about those things. I guess if you don't follow steps and instructions you can have mass chaos.

(Sterling Shepherd, Subway Sandwiches in Uptown Normal, Illinois employee speaking)
Because you want to make sure you put the ingredients on in a strategic manner to be able to satisfy the customer. It really sucks when you put on all the veggies and then they are like "oh can I get avocado on there" and you have to smear the avocado over the meats and stuff like that. It just looks ugly. It is really ugly.
