In this video, I will be walking you through how to get to the online application for scholarships as well as how to fill out the online application. For more information about Heartland Community College Foundation Scholarships, see the FAQ web page on the Heartland Community College Foundation web site at: http://www.heartland.edu/foundation/
scholarships/faq.html
Heartland Community College offers a wide variety of scholarships. You will complete only one application and will be automatically sorted into the scholarships in which you are qualified. You may start the online application process at any time and may modify your scholarship application, including your essay answers up until the scholarship deadline.
You will want to review the essay questions in advance, draft your answers in a text document, and copy and paste your essay answers into the online application. This will give you the opportunity to spell check and save a copy of your answers.
In addition to the online application, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion is highly recommended. While completion of the FASFA form is not required, you will not be eligible for any scholarship that has financial need as a criteria. The Heartland Community College Financial Aid Office can help you with the completion of the FASFA form. See http://www.heartland.edu/payingForCollege/
FinancialAid/apply.html for more information.
You must also submit your transcripts from your high school and/or other college(s) or universities (if these are not already on file with Heartland Community College Student Records) and submit two letters of recommendation.
If you have questions about Heartland Community College Foundation Scholarships, please contact the Foundation at (309) 268-8110.
Getting to the online scholarship application is done by going to the Heartland Community College web site at http://www.heartland.edu. Click on myHeartland from the upper portion of the web page. Within myHeartland click Login from the upper right of the screen. When prompted, sign-in with your Heartland Community College account username and password. If you don't know your username or password, contact the Enrollment office at (309) 268-8380.
Once logged in you will see a series of tabs across the top of the myHeartland screen. The second tab from the left is IRIS. This is where you will find the Student Center. Click on the IRIS tab and then click the icon or hyperlink for IRIS to enter into IRIS (also known as the Instructional Resource Information System).
Within IRIS under Self Service along the right of the screen, click Student Center. This will take you to your Student Center where you can see information about courses you are enrolled in, To Do List items, Advisor information and along the lower right a link to Foundation Scholarships. Click the link titled, "Foundation Scholarship".
Once in Heartland's Scholarship Center you will see your personal information. Please take the time to verify the accuracy of this information. If you see incorrect personal information listed on this screen, please contact Advisement at Heartland Community College at (309) 268-8033. If all personal information listed is correct, proceed by clicking the "Next" button near the bottom of this web page. This will present you with a short survey to help us determine every scholarship you may qualify for. After filling this out, please double check to make sure this information is accurate. The answers to these questions determine which scholarships you will be considered for. Once finished with this survey, click the "Next" button near the bottom of the web page to proceed.
Confirm your high school and/or Heartland Community College information is correct. Report your FAFSA completion status and click "Next" at the bottom of the web page to be taken to the Scholarship Options page.
On the Scholarship Options page you can submit your Letters of Recommendation. Click "Add Letters of Recommendation". You may submit letters of recommendation as a Microsoft Word document or as an Adobe PDF document.
Click "Add Reference". Click the Browse button. Navigate to and choose the Letter of Recommendation file from your computer and click Open. Then click "Upload". Repeat these steps to add a second Letter of Recommendation. The Add Reference screen will show how many letters of recommendation you have submitted. Please know, you can proceed with and submit the scholarship application if you do not yet have your letters of recommendation. If you do not have the capability to scan and upload letters of recommendation, please submit them to the Foundation office and they will be able to do it for you.
After adding letters of recommendation, click "Next". Here you will be presented with 3 essay questions with textboxes for you to paste your essay answers into. Keep in mind that the system does not auto save your work and will time out of the application after 30 minutes. We recommend writing your answers in a Word document or text file to copy and paste the essay answers into the online application textboxes.
Also, each essay question is evaluated separately. Do not assume that information you provide in one answer will carry through to the other questions. Each essay has a 250-word minimum.
Use the "Next" button at the bottom of the screen to update your essay answers.
Next you will be asked to provide an Electronic Signature verifying that the information provided in this application and uploaded documents are accurate and complete. With this you will be submitting your request for scholarship. Please read through the Electronic Signature statements you will be agreeing to. Acknowledge the completion of your scholarship application by clicking the "Submit" button.
On the Thank You screen you will be instructed to submit your transcripts to Heartland Community College Student Records. Once finished reading this information, click the "I am Done" button to end the online session. Your application will be saved in the system and will be available for you to modify until the application deadline date.
Remember that it is your responsibility to submit transcripts from your high school and/or other college/universities. Your transcripts must be on file by the deadline with Heartland Community College for the Scholarship Committee to review. Transcripts may be submitted or mailed directly from the school to the following address:
Heartland Community College
ATTN: Student Records/Transcripts
1500 W. Raab Road
Normal, IL 61761
Additionally, you must submit two Letters of Recommendation from people not related to you. Ideal candidates know you well and might include faculty members, high school teachers, advisors and employers. The more they know about you, your successes, your circumstances and/or the challenges you have met, the better recommendation they will be able to provide.
Recommendation letters can be submitted in two ways:
Online: Your references must be typed as a Word or PDF document and uploaded to your online application as stated in the previous instructions.
OR
Submitted by mail to:
Heartland Community College Foundation
ATTN: Scholarship Committee

All references must be received by the application deadline.
